Clackamas County

Clackamas County

County in northwestern Oregon, USA; area 4,843 sq km/1,870 sq mi; population (1990) 278,850. The county is bordered by Butte Creek and the Pudding River (to the west). Its northwest corner consists of many Portland suburbs, such as the county seat, Oregon City, and Milwaukie, Lake Oswego, and Gladstone. Its eastern half is occupied by Mount Hood National Forest, while the foothills in its centre are primarily given over to dairy farms, cattle ranches, and fruit orchards.
