Clain, Samuil (1745-1806)

Romanian historian and philologist. In his historical works he argued the Latin origin of the Romanians. Elementa linguae Daco-Romanae (1780) proposed the use of Latin orthography for writing Romanian. In 1795 he translated the Bible into Romanian.
