Clapp, Philip Greeley (1888-1954)

US composer. After graduating from Harvard University he studied with Max von Schillings in Stuttgart, Germany, and in London, England. Following several academic appointments, he became professor of music at the University of Iowa.

Works

Orchestral

12 symphonies (1908-44), piano concerto in B minor, Fantasy on an Old Plainchant for cello and orchestra, Dramatic Poem for trombone and orchestra.

Vocal

cantata A Chant of Darkness (H Keller); songs with orchestra.

Other

string quartet and other pieces.
