Clarendon

City in the Panhandle of northern Texas, USA, 90 km/56 mi east-southeast of Amarillo; seat of Donley County; population (1990) 2,100. Clarendon is a ranching and agricultural trade centre, dealing especially in cotton and peanuts.

Founded in 1878 as a temperance settlement, Clarendon earned the ironic name ‘Saints' Roost’ from cowboys. It is home to Clarendon Junior College (1898).
