Clarey, Cynthia (1949- )

US mezzo-soprano. She studied at Juilliard and appeared at the New York City Opera in The Voice of Ariadne by Musgrave. In Boston in 1979 she sang in the first US performance of Tippett's The Ice Break, and returned in 1984 for the premiere of The Mask of Time. She sang at Glyndebourne 1984-86, as Octavia in L'incoronazione de Poppea/The Coronation of Poppea and as Serena in Porgy and Bess, and at the Wexford Festival 1985-87, as Polinesso in Ariodante and Thomas' Mignon. She appeared in London concerts 1993-94 in music by Weill and in Berg's Lulu.
