Clark, Graham

Clark, Graham (1941– )

English tenor. He studied in London and sang with the Scottish Opera from 1975. He performed with the English National Opera Ensemble from 1976, notably as Ginastera's Bomarzo, Hoffmann, Alexey in The Gambler, and Mephistopheles in Busoni's Doktor Faust. He sang David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg/The Mastersingers of Nuremberg at Bayreuth in 1981, and Mime and Loge from 1988. His New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1985, as Števa in Jenůfa, and he returned as Begaerss in John Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles in 1991. He is much admired for his character roles.
