Clarke, Cyril Astley (1907–2000)

English physician and amateur lepidopterist. He made many contributions to medical and scientific journals particularly on the prevention of rhesus haemolytic disease of the newborn and on the evolution of mimicry in swallowtail butterflies.

Educated at Cambridge and Guy's Hospital, London, Clarke became emeritus professor and Nuffield research fellow at the Department of Genetics of Liverpool University in 1972 and soon afterwards president of the Royal College of Physicians.
