Clarke, Rebecca (1886-1979)

English viola player and composer. In a competition in the USA in 1919 for a work for viola and piano she won the prize with a sonata, second only to Ernest Bloch's Suite. She settled in the USA at the outbreak of war in 1939 and married the pianist James Friskin (1886-1967) in 1944.

She studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Psalm for chorus; songs for voice and violin and for voice and piano.

Chamber

piano trio (1921); viola and piano sonata, Rhapsody for cello and piano (1923), duets for viola and cello; instrumental pieces.
