Clarke, Rebecca (1886–1979)

English viola player and composer. In a competition in the USA in 1919 for a work for viola and piano she won the prize with a sonata, second only to Ernest Bloch's Suite. She settled in the USA at the outbreak of war in 1939 and married the pianist James Friskin (1886–1967) in 1944.

She studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Psalm for chorus; songs for voice and violin and for voice and piano.

Chamber

piano trio (1921); viola and piano sonata, Rhapsody for cello and piano (1923), duets for viola and cello; instrumental pieces.
