Plates were contaminated with a known amount of either peanut butter or milk, and then were washed with various types of cleaning agents or solutions--water, chlorinated alkali cleaner (CAD) and acid detergent (AD)--at different temperatures for 30 minutes. Provided by a qualified company, dry polymer cleaning, either as the primary cleaning agent or as a follow-up to proper hot water extraction in heavily soiled areas, removes the embedded dirt that can damage and abrade carpet fibers without eroding or masking the carpet's protective finishes. Ron Gernhardt, of public works fleet services, for suggesting the use of an organic solvent as a cleaning agent to remove asphalt residue, which will save money, officials said. |
