| Clear cell carcinoma of the skin: a variant of the squamous cell carcinoma that simulates sebaceous carcinoma. MECs must be distinguished from necrotizing sialometaplasia, chronic sialadenitis, cystadenoma, cystadenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma, clear cell carcinoma (not otherwise specified), and metastatic tumors. The histologic appearance of a renal cell carcinoma also varies according to its pathologic variants, the most common being a clear cell carcinoma (clear border of the cell, round or oval nuclei, and empty cytoplasm). |
