Clemencic, René (1928– )

Austrian recorder player, harpsichordist, and conductor. He studied in Vienna and founded the Ensemble Musica Antiqua in 1958 and the Clemencic Consort in 1969. He has given concerts worldwide, as well as the first modern performances of Jacopo Peri's Euridice and Leopold I's Il luto dell'universo. He has also performed sacred music by Josquin, Monteverdi, Dufay, Obrecht, and Ockeghem, as well as the medieval Carmina burana in his own edition.
