Cleon (died 422 BC)Athenian politician and general in the Peloponnesian War. He became ‘leader of the people’ (demagogue) after the death of Pericles to whom he was opposed. He was an aggressive imperialist and advocated a vigorous war policy against the Spartans. He was killed by the Spartans at Amphipolis in 422 BC. How to thank TFD for its existence?
