Cleve, Joos van (der Beke)

    0.04 sec.

Cleve, Joos van (der Beke) (1464-1540)

Flemish painter. He has been identified with the Master of the Death of the Virgin. He painted religious subjects and portraits in which the trace of various masters' styles has been detected, though a main influence on his work was that of Quentin Matsys.

Perhaps born in Cleve, he worked in Antwerp but also travelled in Italy, Germany, and England.
