Clevedon

Resort in North Somerset, England; population (2001) 22,000. It is situated on the Severn estuary at the foot of Dial Hill, 17 km/11 mi southwest of Bristol. Clevedon Court, owned by the National Trust, is a mainly 14th-century manor house with extensive collections of pottery and glass.

Samuel Coleridge lived at nearby Myrtle Cottage in 1795. Henry Hallam, the historian, and his poet son, Arthur Hallam – in whose memory Tennyson's ‘In Memoriam’ was written – are buried in the parish church here.
