Clift, (Edward) Montgomery (1920-1966)

US film and theatre actor. A star of the late 1940s and 1950s, he first rose to prominence on the stage. Clift gained international acclaim for his roles in films such as Red River (1948), A Place in the Sun (1951), and From Here to Eternity (1953). He was disfigured in a car accident in 1957 but continued to make films until his death.

His other film credits include The Search (1948), The Heiress (1949), I Confess (1953), Raintree Country (1957), The Young Lions (1958), The Misfits (1961), and Freud (1962).
