Clipperton Island

Atoll in the North Pacific Ocean, an overseas territory of France, south of Mexico and west of Panama; area 7 sq km/2.7 sq mi. The atoll is unpopulated. It takes its name from English pirate John Clipperton, who made the atoll his territory in 1705.
