Clitheroe

Market town in Lancashire, England, 16 km/10 mi northeast of Blackburn; population (2001) 14,700. It is situated in the Ribble Valley between Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland, and is a stone-built town centred around a Norman castle, the grounds of which are now used as a War Memorial park. Clitheroe serves as a market centre for a wide rural area, and has a variety of industries, including light engineering, printing, lime, and cement works.
