Clive, Catherine Kitty (1711-1785)

English actor. About 1727 she came to the notice of Colley Cibber, manager of the Drury Lane Theatre, London, and a place was found for her in the company. In 1743 she went to Covent Garden, and after David Garrick took over she remained with his company until 1769. She won recognition as a comedy actor and as a singer, playing the role of Delilah in Handel's oratorio Samson 1743.
