Clothilde (or St Clothilda) (475–545)

Queen of the Franks. She was the daughter of Chilperic, King of Burgundy, and became the wife of Clovis I, King of the Franks, in 493. She exerted great influence over her husband and converted him to Christianity.

Together they built the church of the Holy Apostles in Paris, afterwards called Ste Geneviève, in which they were both buried. At the death of Clovis, Clothilde retired to the abbey of St Martin in Tours.
