Clovelly

Fishing village in north Devon, England; population (2001) 1,600. It is situated 18 km/11 mi southwest of Bideford in a sheltered valley. Nearby is an ancient British encampment. The cobbled main street descends 122 m/400 ft by steps to a jetty and harbour.

The church in Clovelly has a memorial to Charles Kingsley, who grew up at the local rectory.

The prospect is defined by 3D seismic and is adjacent to the Clovelly Field which has produced 35 million barrels of oil and 200 billion cubic feet of gas since its discovery in the 1950s.
