Cluj-Napoca

City in Transylvania, Romania, located on the River Somes; population (1993) 322,000. It is a communications centre for Romania and the Hungarian plain. Industries include machine tools, furniture, and knitwear.

There is a 14th-century cathedral, and Romanian (1872) and Hungarian (1945) universities.
