Stagecoach

Screen Western released in 1939 directed by John Ford. It restored the popularity of the genre and introduced a host of archetypal characters to it. John Wayne plays the Ringo Kid, an outlaw who seeks vengeance for the death of his father and brother.

The film is significant as much for the rich diversity of characters (the gambler, the drunken doctor, the saloon girl, the respectable woman) as for the Monument Valley locations in Arizona that became Ford's trademark.
