Coalinga

Coalinga

City in Fresno County, south-central California, USA, 80 km/50 mi southwest of Fresno; population (1990) 8,200. In the Coalinga Oilfield, in foothills west of the San Joaquin Valley, it is a supply and refining centre for an area that began oil production in 1928.

Before oil was discovered in the area, Coalinga was a Southern Pacific Railroad settlement called ‘Coaling Station A’.
