Coburn, James (1928–2002)

US film actor. A tall, rugged, frequently comic actor, he was popular in the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in films such as John Sturges's The Magnificent Seven (1960) and The Great Escape (1963), and Sam Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973) and Cross of Iron (1977).

He often appeared in tough-guy roles. Other films include Our Man Flint (1966), A Fistful of Dynamite (1972), and Maverick (1994). He won the 1997 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the drama Affliction (1997).
