Coburn, Alvin Langdon

Coburn, Alvin Langdon (1882–1966)

US-born photographer who settled in Britain. He produced several books of atmospheric photogravures, including New York 1910 and a portrait album Men of Mark 1913. His work tended towards abstraction and in 1917 he exhibited with the Vorticists (an English avant-garde group of artists) a number of fragmented, abstract images which he called ‘Vortographs’.
