Coccia, Maria Rosa (1759-1833)

Italian composer. At the age of 16 she passed a severe examination at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and an account of her brilliant success was published. In 1780 another eulogy of her was issued with letters from the teacher Giovanni Battista Martini, the librettist Pietro Metastasio, and the castrato singer Farinelli.

Works

Magnificat for voices and organ, written at 15, Dixit Dominus and a cantata, but most are lost.
