Cochrane, (Gordon Stanley) ‘Mickey’ (1903–1962)

US baseball player. A catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics 1925–33, he helped them to three National League pennants and two world championships in 1929–31. With the Detroit Tigers as the manager and catcher 1934–37, he helped them to two National League pennants and one world championship.

He was born in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He retired as a player after a seious accident in 1937, but he remained as manager into August 1938.
