Cochrane, Alexander Forrester Inglis (1758-1832)

Scottish admiral. He took part in the actions against France off Martinique in the Montague in 1780. In Lord Keith's expedition during the Napoleonic Wars to Egypt in 1801 he commanded the Ajax, and in 1806 he was second-in-command in the battle off San Domingo.

He was the uncle of Thomas Cochrane, 10th Earl of Dundonald, and the father of Thomas John Cochrane.
