Concert overture by Edward Elgar, Op. 40, composed in 1900 and first performed for the Philharmonic Society, London, England, on 20 June 1901.

Starting with Elgar's Overture: Cockaigne, the second half is given over to Holst's The Planets.
The Blessed Mother will not permit him to falsely impersonate her loyal servant, and confuse the ushering in of the Kingdom of God with a return to the Land of Cockaigne.
Elgar composed the Cockaigne Overture just ahead of his Pomp and Circumstance marches and there are hints of things to come in its stirring, uplifting passages.
