Cockermouth

Town in Cumbria, England, on the River Derwent, 37 km/23 mi from Carlisle; population (2001) 7,900. Cockermouth is a market town serving the surrounding area, and also has some light industries.

The remains of a Norman castle are evident at Cockermouth. The town was the birthplace of the Romantic poet William Wordsworth.
