Coxsackie

Town in Greene County, southeastern New York, USA, on the eastern bank of the Hudson River, 32 km/20 mi south of Albany; population (1990) 7,600. Situated in a farming region, it has a variety of light industries, and is largely residential.

Settled in the 17th century, Coxsackie had an almost completely Dutch population from its founding until the early 19th century. The town made its own ‘declaration of independence’ from British rule in 1775. Its traditional industries were brickmaking and ice cutting.
