Cocoa Beach

City in Brevard County, east-central Florida, USA, 77 km/48 mi east-southeast of Orlando, on a barrier island between the Banana River (to the west) and the Atlantic Ocean; population (1990) 12,100. Cocoa Beach has developed since 1950 as a beachfront resort and a residential centre for military and space program personnel.

Like nearby Cocoa, it is named after the locally abundant coconut palm. The city is situated midway between Cape Canaveral to the north and the Patrick Air Force Base to the south.
