Codex Argenteus

Manuscript containing most of all four gospels in the Moeso-Gothic language, now in the university library in Uppsala, Sweden. It was discovered in the abbey of Werden, Westphalia, and is believed to be a relic of the Gothic Bible translated by Ulfilas (4th century AD).

The leaves are of purple vellum, the initial letters are in gold, and the others in silver. The Gothic gospels of the Silver Book were first printed in types approaching to a facsimile by Junius 1665; in Stockholm, 1671; by Edward Lye at Oxford, 1750; and by Zahn, Weissenfels, 1855.
