Coffeyville| City in Montgomery County, southeastern Kansas, USA, on the Verdigris River, at the Oklahoma border; population (1990) 12,900. The city has oil, chemical, steel, mechanical equipment, flour milling, and meat processing industries. |
| Coffeyville grew with the railroad's arrival in 1870, and boomed when oil and natural gas were discovered nearby in 1902. It was the scene of an 1892 bank robbery shootout in which the notorious Dalton gang was almost wiped out. Coffeyville Community College (1923) is here. |
