Cohen, Morris R (Raphael) (1880-1947)

Russian-born US philosopher who emigrated to the USA in 1892. A respected teacher, he wrote such works as Reason and Nature (1931) and made contributions to legal, political, and social philosophy. He often wrote for a general audience.

He was born in Minsk, Russia. He graduated from City College of New York in 1900 and earned a Harvard doctorate in 1906. He taught at City College 1912-38, and the University of Chicago 1938-41.
