autumn crocus

Any of a group of late-flowering plants belonging to the lily family. The mauve meadow saffron (Colchicum autumnale) yields colchicine, which is used in treating gout and in plant breeding. (Genus Colchicum, family Liliaceae.)

Colchicine causes plants to double the numbers of their chromosomes, forming polyploids)

The delightful, if rather transitory, Colchicum autumnale, autumn crocus, has a list of medicinal uses for its corms and seeds that will rival any modern antibiotic but, be warned - even when you plant the corms in midsummer they may cause an allergic reaction with some people's skin - wear gloves when handling the corms
The absence of colchicine in these products is not surprising since Ginkgo biloba, the source material for ginkgo preparations, is taxonomically unrelated to the colchicine producing Colchicum autumnale and related Liliaceous species.
THE autumn crocus, Colchicum autumnale, can be planted now, just as theflowers begin to emerge.
