Cole County

County in central Missouri, USA; area 1,015 sq km/392 sq mi; population (1990) 63,600. The county is situated on the Ozark Plateau, bounded by the Missouri River to the north and the Osage River to the east. In the extreme north is its seat and only large city, Jefferson City, also the state capital. The rest of the county is mainly agricultural, dominated by wheat, corn, and livestock, but also contains mineral deposits.
