Coleman, Edward (died 1669)

English singer, lutenist, and composer, son of Charles Coleman. He composed incidental music to James Shirley's play Contention of Ajax and Achilles in 1653, contributed songs to Select Musicall Ayres and Dialogues the same year, and pieces of his appeared in John Playford's Musical Companion in 1672.

Both he and his wife sang in The Siege of Rhodes in 1656. He became a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal on its re-establishment in 1660 and succeeded Lanier in the royal band in 1662.
