Coles, Robert Martin

Coles, Robert Martin (1929– )

US psychiatrist and author. Affiliated with the Harvard University Medical School, he became professor of psychiatry and medical humanities in 1978. He devoted his professional life to the psychology of children. He wrote the Pulitizer Prize-winning series Children of Crisis (1967–1978), detailing the resilience and courage of young children throughout the world. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1998.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
