College Park

City in Fulton and Clayton Counties, northwestern Georgia, USA, 13 km/8 mi south-southwest of downtown Atlanta; population (1990) 20,500. Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport lies to the southeast.

The city's original name of Manchester was changed in 1895, when Cox College (now closed) was established here. Woodward Academy, formerly the Georgia Military Academy, was founded in 1900.

College Park

City in Prince George's County, central Maryland, USA, 14 km/9 mi northeast of Washington, DC; population (1990) 21,900. College Park is primarily an academic community.

The city developed around Maryland Agricultural College, founded here in 1856, which became Maryland State College in 1916. College Park is the seat of the main campus of the University of Maryland, which merged with Maryland State College when it was established here in 1920. The Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station (1887) is also here. The residential town of University Park is just to the southwest; population (1990) 2,200.
