College Station

City in Brazos County, east-central Texas, 132 km/82 mi northwest of Houston, and adjoining the city of Bryan; population (1992) 55,700. Texas A & M (Agricultural and Mechanical) University was founded here in 1876; the community grew up around the college, and was incorporated as a city in 1939. The university is known for research in engineering, fisheries, agriculture, nuclear technology, and animal pathology.
