Collingwood

Town in Simcoe County, south-central Ontario, Canada, at the southern end of Georgian Bay of Lake Huron, at the base of 541 m/1,775 ft Blue Mountain, 43 km/27 mi west-northwest of Barrie and 113 km/70 mi north-northwest of Toronto; population (1991) 13,500. Collingwood is a popular ski resort, is an important port, and has a strong shipbuilding industry. There is also fruit canning and shipping and the manufacture of lumber, flour, furniture, and Blue Mountain pottery.

Once the territory of the Tionantati (Tobacco Nation), the area was settled by whites in the 1830s, when the town of Hurontario Mills was established just east of the present site.
