Collins, Pauline (1940- )

English stage and screen actor. She rose to international attention in 1988 as the middle-aged heroine on the road to self-discovery in the comedy Shirley Valentine, a role she also performed on stage.

Other work includes the British television comedies The Liver Birds (1969), Upstairs, Downstairs (1971-76), and various comedy series with her husband, John Alderton (1940- ). She also starred in the Kolkata-set film drama City of Joy (1992), the World War II drama Paradise Road (1997), and the television miniseries The Ambassador (1998). She won a Tony award for the stage version of Shirley Valentine in 1989.
