Collins, Pauline (1940– )

English stage and screen actor. She rose to international attention in 1988 as the middle-aged heroine on the road to self-discovery in the comedy Shirley Valentine, a role she also performed on stage.

Other work includes the British television comedies The Liver Birds (1969), Upstairs, Downstairs (1971–76), and various comedy series with her husband, John Alderton (1940– ). She also starred in the Kolkata-set film drama City of Joy (1992), the World War II drama Paradise Road (1997), and the television miniseries The Ambassador (1998). She won a Tony award for the stage version of Shirley Valentine in 1989.
