Collins, Phil(lip) David Charles (1951- )

English pop singer, drummer, and actor. A member of the group Genesis from 1970, he has also pursued a successful middle-of-the-road solo career since 1981, with hits (often new versions of old songs) including ‘In the Air Tonight’ (1981), ‘Groovy Kind of Love’ (1988), ‘Another Day in Paradise’ (1989), ‘I Wish it Would Rain’ (1990), and ‘Both Sides of the Story’ (1993). He starred as the train robber Buster Edwards in the film Buster (1988). His albums include No Jacket Required (1985), …But Seriously (1989), Both Sides (1993), Dance into the Light (1996), and A Hot Night In Paris (1999). Collins was awarded an Academy Award, as well as a Grammy and a Golden Globe, for ‘You'll be in my Heart’, the song he wrote for the animated feature film Tarzan (1999).
