Colombo Plan

Plan for cooperative economic and social development in Asia and the Pacific, established in 1950. Starting as a group of seven Commonwealth nations, it has grown into an organization of 25 member countries: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Canada, Fiji Islands, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, UK, USA, and Vietnam. They meet annually to discuss economic and development plans such as irrigation, hydroelectric schemes, and technical training. The secretariat is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The plan has no central fund but technical assistance and financing of development projects are arranged through individual governments or the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
