Colton

City in San Bernardino County, southwestern California, USA, 86 km/53 mi east of Los Angeles and just southwest of San Bernardino; population (1990) 40,200. Industries include concrete and cement products, and the city is a shipping centre for regional fruit. Colton also has large railyards.

Mexicans settled the site in 1838, and Americans began arriving in the 1860s. Colton was founded in 1875, when the Southern Pacific Railroad came through the area.
