Colville, Alex

    0.06 sec.

Colville, Alex (1920- )

Canadian painter. A prominent realist artist, his style has affinities with that of Andrew Wyeth. His somewhat melancholic paintings depict smooth, broad-bodied nudes and figures of working men as remote from the Canadian landscape they inhabit. He is also an accomplished animal painter, for example Hound in Field (1958; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa). In 1983 an international touring retrospective of his work was organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario.
