Comacchio

Town in Emilia-Romagna region, north-central Italy, 45 km/28 mi southeast of Ferrara and 5 km/3 mi from the Adriatic coast; population (1991) 21,200. Comacchio is built upon 13 islands, amid shallow lagoons (Valli di Comacchio) known for their fishing, particularly eels.
