Porter, a former math teacher, has turned lecturing into a comic art form by carefully observing and exaggerating the mannerisms of desk-bound women educators, from administers to curators. In general, Walker disagrees with the intellectual thrust of the show - that the artistic energy and creativity in comic art deserted mainstream American newspapers for countercultural alternatives in the late 1960s. Alternating with these are 19 original illustrated stories effectively evoking Skywald's distinctive "horror-mood" and demonstrating its range of comic art. |
